ROUTES

ROUTE 1: CHAPEL OF LA PAU.

-On Angel Sunday it is a tradition among the people of Pòrtol, Santa Maria and Santa Eugènia to go on a pilgrimage to the Chapel of La Pau, where the “pa-amb-caritat” takes place. The chapel is located in the municipality of Santa Maria, very near Marratxí, in the pine forest-clad hills that separate the two municipalities. The small chapel is set in a truly beautiful location.

-The route starts in Pòrtol. Follow the street leading to Sineu road. Having passed the last houses of Pòrtol Nou, walk up a path through the thicket on the left. The path leads uphill to the chapel and takes almost one hour. The chapel is a nice place to rest and spend a nice time.

-You can return to Pòrtol along the same trail or walk downhill to Santa Eugènia or Santa Maria.

ROUTE 2: CAVE OF SON CAULELLES, ES PUIG BLANC AND LA MUNTANYA DE LES COVES

The walk starts at the burial cave of Son Caullelles, which is located just behind Pòrtol sports field, next to the Costa i LLobera school.

Head towards Sa Cabaneta and just after entering the town turn right onto a trail leading down the valley. You can stop at the small hill of Puig Blanc to admire the landscape and the archaeological remains.

Walk down another small valley and up to the estate of Ca'n Parrisco where you will find very interesting prehistoric remains.

Cross the valley to return to Pòrtol. There are beautiful views along the way.

ROUTE 3: SANT MARÇAL, SA CABANETA AND PÒRTOL.

The walk begins at Sant Marçal, where you can visit the church.

Walk through Sa Cabaneta, stopping at the Town Hall. Having left the town behind, you enjoy views of the mountain valley on the left. Walk past Son Caulelles and the old slaughterhouse which has been converted into the municipal culture centre.

In Pòrtol you can admire the old flour grinding windmills and visit the old potteries. If you can, visit them when the potters are at work. It is always very interesting to see the artisans using the potter’s wheel. Potteries sell their own products on site.

Finally, visit the red clay deposit outside town. If you return on foot walk to Sa Cabaneta along the paths crossing the valley and leading to Son Cós, around Puig Blanc.
